A deprecated element is one that is considered antiquated and is in the process of being replaced, but is not yet obsolete.
Deprecated features may remain for many years due to the fact they are often phased out instead of immediately replaced (most often for cost reasons). Committees writing standards documents encounter such features in discovering that much extant code may depend upon features no longer in favor.
Using deprecated elements is not recommended, even though they may still be supported, as they will soon become obsolete.
